Year-in-Review & 2022’s Most-Interesting Photos

I know I vowed to start blogging more and I kind-of have done so, but to be honest, most of my good content goes over on [robotSprocket] rather than here. But maybe that will change in the new year. Maybe.

As for 2022, it’s the end-of-the-road and as I look forward to 2023, I wanted to take a few moments to look backwards at this year.

As far as photography goes, this was a year of less photography and more enjoying. Enjoying life. Enjoying where I am. Enjoying my time with my wife and our menagerie of beasts (3 dogs, 2 cats and assorted fish).

As I shared a few months ago, after fifteen years and nearly 6000 daily photos, I decided to take a bit of a break and slow things down a bit, as result of me wanting to enjoy things as mentioned as well as a bit of burn out after all these years.

That said, I did get some photograph-making done this year, including an epic 9 day journey down the west coast of the United States, from Portland to San Francisco (some of which’s photos are featured below). I did a two-part travelog on [robotSprocket] that you can read here (part 1) and here (part 2). I was also able to make a long weekend trip with my extended family to Port Aransas and Corpus Christi, Texas, that included a bit of photography and video, including a visit to an aircraft carrier.

But, other than that, I’ve been taking it easy. My big project since I started my sabbatical has been digitizing the thousands of negatives and prints that I’ve amassed over the years, including both my own (some of which have been shared here and here) as well as those of my parents and grandparents. As a result, I’ve started to love film again and am considering doing more film photography in 2023.

As in years past, these are the 10 most-interesting photos I made and shared in 2022 as determined by Flickr’s obscure and mysterious “Interestingness” algorithm.
