Reformatting the Classics

I was recently playing around with Adobe’s new Generative Fill tool in Photoshop and wondered what it would be like to reformat classic paintings to fit the 16:9 aspect ratio to better fit your TV. The results were mixed:

Liberty Leading the People (1830) – Eugène Delacroix

American Gothic (1930) – Grant Wood

The Night Watch (1642) – Rembrandt van Rijn

The Arnolfini Portrait (1434) – Jan van Eyck

The Great Wave off Kanagawa (1831) – Hokusai

Mona Lisa (c. 1503–1506) – Leonardo da Vinci

And, finally, Edward Hopper’s Nighthawks (1942), reformatted to fit those vertical TVs in mall kiosks:
