I was recently browsing Wikipedia and stumbled upon a list of state capitols of the United States and, as one does, went down a rabbit hole and started reading about each state’s capitol building.
While some are great, others are, well, architectural garbage, at least in my opinion. So I thought I’d do a quick article about my least favorite.
New Mexico
A couple of years ago, I visited Santa Fe for the first time and stumbled upon the New Mexico State Capitol. Unfortunately, I thought it was a shitty convention center at first.
Florida
A shithole for shitheads, the Florida Capitol is the seat of government for such scummy people as Ron DeSantis and Marco Rubio. The original, acceptable design in the foreground was replaced by this reprehensible tower in the 1970s.
Alaska
While I’ve enjoyed my various visits to the 49th state, I do not enjoy its capitol, which looks like a generic office building. In fact, I’m pretty sure I’ve walked by this building without realizing it was the capitol.
Hawaii
Ugh…this looks like a 1960s natural history museum.
Nebraska
Actually, I give credit to the architects on this one—the captured the banality of the state of Nebraska in the architecture of the capitol building. Actually, it looks like they saw Los Angeles City Hall and said “eh, good enough”.
North Dakota
If I were assigning state mottos, I’d grant North Dakota “The Boring State” based on this right here. Sorry, Nebraska, you’ve been dethroned.
Oregon
“Proportions? Never heard of ’em”. This looks like the architect saw Scrooge McDuck’s Money Bin and decided to meld it with a spline shaft and the Mormon’s Angel Moroni.
Honorable Mention – the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands
While not a state, the CNMI is a territory of the United States and have a legislature. That convenes in this shitty building.
