Prison Break! – Part One

As you may or may not know, I currently reside in the far-northern-suburbs of Dallas in McKinney, Texas, the county seat of Collin County and a place that’s rapidly grown from a small town to a small city (54,000 residents in 2000 to over 200,000 today). Incorporated in 1859, it’s one of the oldest cities in North Texas and, despite the growth, has mostly-succeeded in keeping a “small town” feeling about it.

Because of this particularly-American “small town-ness” along with it’s close proximity to Dallas, the studio complex at Las Colinas and adjacent ruralness, it’s been the site of several film and TV productions, including Fox’s 2005 series Prison Break.

Starting in the second season, several scenes over several episodes were shot here, so, out of curiosity, I’ve started working my way through the series to see what I could identify as McKinney, so today, we’re going to look at Season 2, Episode 1.

The first scene that’s recognizably McKinney is this scene that was filmed in the city’s downtown square:

The last cut is the clearest, easiest-to-identify shot of the intersection of S. Tennessee and E. Virginia:

But, if you’ve spent some time in Downtown McKinney, the rest of the scene’s environs are pretty familiar.

The next definitely-McKinney scene is this one, shot at the city’s historic Pecan Grove Cemetery (you can view some of my photos from there on 75CentralPhotography).

This is verified by a couple of headstones in the scene:

This one, for the Ticknor family:

And this one, for the Barnes family:

Are the two most-prominent headstones in the shot that made verifying the location easiest.

Finally, we have this scene:

This was shot at an old grain mill near Downtown McKinney. Since this episode was shot, it’s been transformed and remodeled into the new home of Tupps Brewery, but the structures in the background shot are still visible in this recent Google Streetview shot:

Stay tuned for the next entry, once I get a change to watch some more episodes!
